I bought a 12 x 18 mat and I like its thickness. It's definitely thicker than my Alvin mat, so it cuts well on it. However, I don't really like the setup of the ruler guides. They don't reach the edge of the cutting mat! Ruler guides only extend from 9" to 15" (on a 12 x 18 mat). There is 1" of blank space around the 9" x 15" perimeter before the measurements appear on the outside edge. If you only use this mat for haircuts, this is a good self-healing mat and you will love it. If you measure that, you may be disappointed.
