I bought a 12 x 18 mat and I like its thickness. It's definitely thicker than my Alvin mat, so it cuts well on it. However, I don't really like the setup of the ruler guides. They don't reach the edge of the cutting mat! Ruler guides only extend from 9" to 15" (on a 12 x 18 mat). There is 1" of blank space around the 9" x 15" perimeter before the measurements appear on the outside edge. This is an amazing cutting mat that I bought to cut fabric. I cut circles out of an old t-shirt and the fabric couldn't stay in place so I used a small piece of tape in each corner to press down. When I removed the tape I noticed some dirt was left behind so I put a small amount of Goo Gone on a cotton swab and wiped it off. When I did this, the white lines on the mat also faded. The mat arrived bent. I'll have to let it warm up and put some weight on it to see if I can straighten it out. Also, the mesh is 11 x 17 inches, not 12 x 18 inches. Measurements less than 12" x 18" x ¼" on each side. More like 30 x 45 cm, actually 6 layers (I checked with the magnifying glass) but the mat says 5 layers. Must be a typo. : ).
