Review on πŸ“» Mcbazel SF401 Plus Radio Portable Frequency Counter Meter – 27Mhz to 3000Mhz with CTCCSS DCS Decoder by Jason Elliss

Quirky but it works

I have been using one of these at work for a couple of years now. (I'm a two-way radio tech.) It's not something you'd want to use to set a radio on frequency, but look at the price of the thing! It's great for guesstimating what frequency and CTCSS (PL) code a customer is using. It's ultra light weight and slips into a pocket. The battery life is decent. The display is easy to read but has a lot of tiny numbers in it that they don't explain. Of course, there are a few annoying things about it. The CTCSS/DCS decoder only works up to about 500 MHz. You can select 3 or 4 digits after the decimal. Sometimes it remembers, sometimes not. The 4th digit is pretty much random. It doesn't really go up to 3 GHz, 900 MHz is about it. For the price, though, it does the job.

Pros
  • Will work for what I got it for . could be better . Only 4 PPM
Cons
  • Good at getting radio frequency, poor at determining CTSS code.
