Failure within a year

I bought and installed this V-ribbed belt with a new tensioner just 12 months ago. Everything was fine until three days ago, on a fast-moving freeway, the car started to stall. The generator warning lights came on. I managed to tense my right shoulder. The car stopped completely and would not start. I opened the hood, everything seemed fine except the belt was loose and not tight enough to drive the alternator. The tow truck drove a long time and after three hours I was finally towed away. For three hours I was driving on a very busy freeway with cars traveling at 80 miles per hour just a few meters from me. Here is my total cost of purchasing this cheap serpentine belt: 1. This belt: $19.36 2. Towing charges: $130.00 3. Taxi to store: $7.35 4. Installation labor: $75.00 ==== ======= ======= Total cost: $237.71 ================== I have the $32.99 cost of a new belt does not include $75.00 labor cost to install a new belt. Also not included is the cost of my three hour sit on the freeway. I'm a little thankful that I wasn't hit by another car. I was also lucky that I didn't have to change the idler pulley. Conclusion: Never buy a cheap V-ribbed belt. You're stranded and your overall cost could be ten times that of a quality belt. **UPDATE: I called Revain and they honored their one year warranty. return issued.
