Mounted on a good, sturdy tripod, these binoculars are an amazingly powerful instrument for observing the night sky. You can easily find and focus on the target at low magnification and then zoom in; The zoom lever works very smoothly and does not cause the binoculars to wobble when operated carefully. Last night, from the sidewalk in front of my house in the heart of Greater Boston, my daughter and I saw the three moons of Jupiter and the streak of color on the planet's disc and the "ears" of Saturn! I can't wait to try them out under a really dark sky. They are also excellent for handheld inspection of distant targets in daylight. I thought I might be making a mistake buying binoculars this cheap, but I'm very glad I have them.
