This is a touchy subject, but for good reason. At the other end are two adjustment knobs that allow you to fine tune the squareness with which your chisel etc. is held in the tool. They also allow for a small crown to be machined at the tip of the tool if both are loosened a little (some planer users prefer this). I made the mistake of playing around with them and then returning them correctly without verification. but my fault. If you play with them, be sure to put them back in their place. Please read the instructions. HOWEVER, this is a great tool that has helped me reshape tool edges fairly quickly without the semi-dangerous and sloppy work I used to do by hand. For me it is worth the high price.
