Review on πŸ”Œ Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, Black: Effortlessly Open Cans with Style by Kevin Duhon

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Electric can opener and paper shredder in one!

UPDATE: I changed my rating from 3 stars to 1 after the can opener stopped working today - even two months after I bought it. The motor still runs and the gears turn the jar, but the blade refuses to pierce the lid. It seems to have somehow wedged itself in the cutterbar until it can no longer do what it was designed to do: open cans. Given the almost universal complaints about this can opener, I doubt Revain should continue to sell it. First review: I had to replace my electric can opener after a few years. My previous one was one of those cut under the rim. This worked fine, but I had to hold the button down until the jar was fully open. Towards the end of his life he had difficulty opening certain types of cans and those that had sharp edges. When it came time to replace it, I wanted to go back to a traditional electric can opener: one with a magnetic lid holder, an auto shut-off, and the ability to hold the can until I pull it out. Believe it or not, I did quite a bit of research before deciding on this one. None of the electric can openers that Revain sells had 100% five star ratings, but this one had solid ratings and the features I wanted. Several reviews mentioned that the labels on the jars were torn when opened, but I figured this was due to user error rather than product design flaw, and bought. I had to believe the reviews. I give it three stars because it's easy to use, easily holds and opens jars of any size, and automatically shuts off when you're done. But he REALLY tears up labels, and it's ridiculous that every time I open a can with a label on, I have to clear tiny slivers of paper from my counter and the opener itself. I've uploaded some photos so buyers can see what I mean. In one you can see paper dust left on the opener (on the black border just below the blade) from a can of dog food I just opened. Other photos show a jar with a torn label under the rim. I've never had that with a can opener. Cuisinart should be aware of this issue but has done nothing to resolve it. Maybe I will replace it with another one from another manufacturer in the near future.
