Review on 🦁 Nature's Brown Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool Yarn, #126 by Kelly Johnson

Lower quality than the yarn they made a few years ago

I bought a skein of this yarn 4 years ago. I sat at it until I found the right project that required more of this yarn. I know that identical batches of dyes were a pipe dream; The design allows me to swap panels between the two to at least minimize the differences. I was expecting it to be a little different, but this "new" fish wool is far from what I expected. This new skein is the reason people despise wool. It's spiky, relatively dry, so fuzzy and split. It's also a bit thinner - more specifically, it pulls thinner, but that's not yarn on a needle, it's loose strands. And less springy. It's hard to keep the suspense going when he's acting like that. The old skein pictured in my hand on the left and crocheted in the bottom half of the unfinished project is silky and the lanolin smoothed my hands. You can see the lanolin glowing in the yarn. Stitch definition is fine. Although it had some tension issues because it was a bit "soft" as a single yarn, it was fine after sewing. In the edited photo, the bottom is the old yarn and the top is the new yarn. same hook and "pulling thread" as on bottom V-stitches. I need to unpick the top 3 rows of V stitches with this new yarn and switch to a smaller crochet hook or downsize my project and keep the old yarn. My guess is that the new yarn is made from a shorter staple fiber. which would explain the uncomfortably creaky blur and cleavage. And lanolin's lighter weight means it's cheaper to buy more wool, which is spun into yarn. Maybe I underestimate the lack of sheep. I'm disappointed but I have to accept; However, in the future I will not buy this yarn again and I will think twice about Lion Brand in general. It's still a good price for virgin wool yarn to be honest (although it's more expensive than buying the original skein.) If this is your first time trying this, it's best that you don't know what you're missing. Less lanolin helps, at least when felting. In short, 1 star because it is below average in every way compared to what they did a few years ago.
