This GE MWF SmartWater filter performs just as well as our original water filter. I'm so glad my husband stumbled across this because this filter is half the price of the one we're replacing. We use a lot of filtered water, so we change the filter about every 4 months instead of every 6, and at $55 apiece it's getting pretty pricey. Our fridge is also about 22 years old, so we would like the filter to be changed a little more often. With all the new technology, the filters installed in refrigerators now contain all the baking soda and other substances they contain to keep them fresher longer. But if you need a new water filter and are considering it as a replacement for a more expensive one, I recommend giving it a try. We stayed about 2 months and had no problems. I will definitely take this water filter for now because with the money saved and the same filtered water there is no point in switching. I think in a few months I'll find out if the filter lasts longer. We opt for the taste of water and ice. I'll try to remember to come back and do an update if I see it going beyond the 4 months I normally get from an original brand filter.
