First a little background. I live in a 70's house and my wifi gateway (connected to the downstairs router) has a very poor connection to the two upstairs bedrooms. I mean very bad. We're talking about 0.5 Mbps, poor guy. I've heard that old houses don't respond well to powerline networks, but I've had an XBox that was powerlined before - with Western Digital powerline devices - and it worked fine despite being much closer to the router. In any case, it couldn't be much worse than what I had, so why not try it? It took me about 15 minutes to get this device up and running. I plugged it into the wall next to the router and got a connection quickly. I pressed the WPS button on the router and then held the ON/OFF button on the Netgear extender for about 8 seconds. Everything well connected. I then took it upstairs with a bit of trepidation because I'm trying to get a Netgear wireless extender to talk to a Western Digital Powerline device connected to a Linksys wireless gateway. Use the skeleton of a house from 77, no less! My fears were unfounded. Everything synced right away with no issues, and my previously pathetic 0.5Mbps throughput jumped to over 20Mbps, which was verified using the speed test tool on my iPad. It's as fast as my connection to Comcast will allow. 40x improvement in 15 minutes of effort; You can't beat this. I give this product a full 5 stars without reservation. What really blew me away was not having to change my current Western Digital Powerline connection, which already connects multiple devices to my router. I now have a spare wired Netgear plug (included with the wireless extender) to place elsewhere in the house. Not that bad.
