Technology has limits.

I was disappointed. I expected this device to offer faster point-to-point speeds than the older 200Mbps devices I've used over the past three years. The old product was slightly faster. "500 Mbps" refers to the total network bandwidth, meaning you can connect more devices, but they won't work any faster. There really isn't much Netgear can do to increase the point-to-point transmission speed, as it's limited by the technology and the AC power lines it runs through. When browsing the web, theโ€ฆ

Easy install and decent speed

I moved to a business center where there were no CAT5 hookups and the lack of crawl space and vaulted ceilings would have made installation difficult. My installer suggested the powerline idea so I looked into that and chose this model as I need a pass through adapter and it also has 2 ethernet ports so I can easily connect my VOIP and laptop together can connect. The first real test I wanted to try was the difference in speed between a direct connection to a router, a powerline connection, and

Fantastic WiFi in an old house

First a little background. I live in a 70's house and my wifi gateway (connected to the downstairs router) has a very poor connection to the two upstairs bedrooms. I mean very bad. We're talking about 0.5 Mbps, poor guy. I've heard that old houses don't respond well to powerline networks, but I've had an XBox that was powerlined before - with Western Digital powerline devices - and it worked fine despite being much closer to the router. In any case, it couldn't be much worse than what I had, so

Tired of tripping over cables, perfect for an apartment

This review is for the XAVB5602 (500Mbps, pass-through). I ran Cat 5 cables across the floor to two desktop PCs. I've tried replacing cables with several models of WiFi adapters before, and while they worked well overall, higher bandwidth applications (remote desktop, audio/video streaming) had noticeable latency issues, resulting in "twitchy" led to results. I was skeptical about powerline ethernet but figured my needs were pretty simple (short delay, single channel) and since I was happy with

It helped in our house but then I bought another

I bought two of these. Our L-shaped house only had 50% WiFi coverage. This extended the range of our master bedroom. However, I have bought a second one for another house and am lowering my rating. The device is not working. If I got a replacement I think it would work just as well as the first one. But Netgear support is difficult or impossible to work with. I first spoke to a support rep who said this was a common issue and I should get a warranty replacement from the store. He didn't offerโ€ฆ

Know what you're getting

I live in an old mansion with a lot of 16 inch brick walls added in the last almost 2 centuries that the wifi router just couldn't handle it. This system works perfectly. and it was easy to connect. However, I was a little confused by the description. Somehow I thought that all devices are wireless and the big device in the picture was the main one, wrong. I ordered another pack of 2 smaller devices, like Well. It turns out that the big box is a WiFi box. You connect a small unit (these areโ€ฆ

Worked like magic

Others here have complained that XAVNB2001 is difficult to set up. I have to live right. Mine worked right out of the box and was very easy to set up with the CD that came with it. Here's what I did and my gear: Motorola SURFboard SB5101 cable modem, Cisco RT31P2 broadband router (wired) with phone connections. WRT54G Broadband G WiFi Router (Folded). You connect through a wired router to an XAV2001 that uses power lines to connect to an XAVNB2001 and an XAV2001 connected to a Cisco E2000โ€ฆ
