Review on πŸ’¨ NETGEAR Powerline 500Mbps 2-Port Adapter - Starter Kit (XAVB5602): Boost Your Home Network Speed with this High-Performance Adapter by Jeff Richardson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Technology has limits.

I was disappointed. I expected this device to offer faster point-to-point speeds than the older 200Mbps devices I've used over the past three years. The old product was slightly faster. "500 Mbps" refers to the total network bandwidth, meaning you can connect more devices, but they won't work any faster. There really isn't much Netgear can do to increase the point-to-point transmission speed, as it's limited by the technology and the AC power lines it runs through. When browsing the web, the maximum speed you can expect seems to be around 35Mbps if you're lucky. About three years ago this was fast enough as that's all my ISP offered on the modem. Now it's three times as much, but with powerline technology I won't see it. Wireless or Ethernet are faster when I'm ready for trouble. Despite what I just wrote, if you can live with the speed limit, the gadgets work, and setup is almost trivial compared to setting up a wireless network. in your house. Lob Revain: They let me return it without question. I don't think they are legally required to do this as it is my fault for not doing a more thorough investigation, so a big thank you to them!
