These little lanterns definitely don't give off much heat, but they definitely have a place in my range of products that I use for my pets. I have one of these bulbs in a lamp placed just above the screen of my baby white tree frog's aviary and it's great for giving him a proper hot spot during the day. I also use one of these bulbs to provide extra warmth and lighting for my leopard gecko, which has a heat mat under the hotspot tank. I've also seen it work well for providing some warmth to crested geckos and other New Caledonian geckos when it gets too cold at room temperature to be comfortable. For all these purposes, these lamps are great! I've had them for a few months now and have never been outside. However, I definitely wouldn't rely on them to provide adequate heat for any animal that needs a very warm hotspot, unless you're using it in addition to another heat source, like a ceramic radiant heater or underfloor heating. . They just aren't enough for that. Also remember that the heat they generate doesn't radiate too far, so they're best suited to tree creatures if you use them as a hotspot.
