I believe this was designed for well behaved senior dogs, not young active curious dogs. They know that the phrase 'locks' is only meant to keep honest people honest and these gates are meant to keep dogs that are already well behaved out of the restricted area. I think a white line on the floor would have about the same effect. The hooks are attached with glue that pretty much just stuck to the paint. When they came off some of the paint came off and some of the glue remained - the hook with the screw we put in ourselves worked better as the tiny hole can be easily patched but it requires sandpaper and paint. Also the bars at the ends to make it strong weren't for the construction, just to keep the shape. The zipper is very strong and heavy, but attached to a thin mesh, it was too heavy. So in the end I couldn't use it as a gate but modified it to protect a very large bookshelf. It's perfect for that because she didn't really bother with the shelves unless she was bored. So it was just a little daunting to keep her away from anything financial and sentimental that she didn't care about anyway. If I were buying this for that purpose I would give it 5 stars but I bought it for a dog guard - 2.
