Review on πŸ“Ή Coaxial Cable IP Camera Video Extender: Transmit IP Camera Video Over Coaxial Cable by Erik Peterson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great, works like a charm1

I had an old analog CCTV system that used Cat5e (with baluns to convert to coax) for analog cameras and a coax DVR was connected. Except for one camera, which was connected via coaxial cable. A dedicated CCTV coaxial cable with a smaller power cable attached to it. I decided to upgrade everything with IP/POE cameras and NVR. This means that the cabling for all cameras except for one coaxial camera can be easily reused. One solution was to tie the Cat5e to one end of the coax and pull the coax out and pull the Cat5e in. In my case this was not possible (many corners in the walls). So I found this product and it worked great! Two important points for those who got into my situation: 1) The network tester, which pings each of the eight category 5e wires/strands, did not work, it showed that the indicators #2 and #6 on the master Side lit up, and farther the far end did not light up. That's to be expected, don't panic - there aren't 8 separate strands here. 2) Make sure you reuse your power cord! This adapter is not PoE, just IP. My PoE cameras had 3 ends: Cat5e, power (for extra use) and a reset button. So I used an existing coax connector to power the camera and this adapter to convert the coax to RJ45 and it worked.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Mostly good but...
