Although I usually find these bits quite useful for cutting round holes in steel (up to about 1/4" thick), I used 3/8 the first time around "Drill diameter, the drill bit "exploded'. The drill was running at 400 rpm (slow). A lot of cutting fluid was used. The steel was mild steel, about 1/4 inch thick. Everything was fine, and mostly in thickness it seemed like it "snagged" on a piece of harder steel and exploded (it blew up). See attached image.
