Description of Hougen 11075 RotaCut Fractional Cutter

✔️Hougen Sheet Metal Hole Cutters are Perfect For: Electrical; Pipe and Tubing; Conduit Work; Sheet Metal fabrication; Maintenance Installations; HVAC / PHCC; Automotive Aftermarket and many other industries. ✔️Holemaking – faster and easier than with conventional twist drills andhole saws – in Sheet Metal; Plate Materials; Hardened Steel, Mild Steel; Stainless Steel and Plastics; For use in hand held drills with either 3/8" or 1/2" diameter chucks, or air feed drill spindles for production work. ✔️Hougen Sheet Metal Hole Cutters are not hole saws - they’re precision ground and heat treated high-performance cutting tools that produce clean, burr-free, round holes without ripping, tearing, or deforming the surrounding material. They can produce holes up to 3x faster than hole saws and last 10x longer. ✔️For use in hand held drills with either 3/8" or 1/2" diameter chucks, or air feed drill spindles for production work. ✔️Hougen’s Sheet Metal Hole Cutters allow you to maximize feed rates and distribute the cutting load evenly over many cutting edges, rather than just two edges as a twist drill. Also, by cutting around the hole, Hougen Sheet Metal Hole Cutters convert a smaller area to chips, leaving the center as a slug, requiring less horsepower and thrust than twist drills.

Bit broke on first use

Although I usually find these bits quite useful for cutting round holes in steel (up to about 1/4" thick), I used 3/8 the first time around "Drill diameter, the drill bit "exploded'. The drill was running at 400 rpm (slow). A lot of cutting fluid was used. The steel was mild steel, about 1/4 inch thick. Everything was fine, and mostly in thickness it seemed like it "snagged" on a piece of harder steel and exploded (it blew up). See attached image.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

Perfect. How about 46 holes in two sizes each?

Dude, these things are great. Now I'm a bit conservative, so I use the drill at the lowest speed, constantly lubricate cutting fluid and work slowly, make snakes while drilling, then let it rest, add oil and repeat. I have 46 holes with a 5/8" bit on a 3/16" flat shank and another 46 holes with a 3/4" bit in a 3/16" plate. Slow and steady with oil - NOT WD40, a small brush to keep sticky cutting oil in the channel, it cuts and damn it. . . incredible mileage from them. Take your time and they…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No gun

Great tool - highly recommended!

This is the most amazing tool! I bought it to drill spot welds for some body work I have in mind; but have not used it for this purpose yet. Instead, I've used it to drill holes in everything from sheet metal to 3/8-inch mild steel. way through each side as the tool is 1/4 inch.) This tool requires far less force and time to drill a hole in thick steel and makes the hole much cleaner and rounder than twist drills. I haven't even compared it to a sheet metal step drill because, to be honest…

Pros
  • High test scores for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
