Review on Prepworks Progressive Biscuit Cutters Set by Michelle Powell

Great knife for the money if you know some good tips

This paring knife works great IF: 1) Snip off each end of the potato to give a flat surface for better slicing and straight pressing. Otherwise the potato will slide sideways against the pusher and eventually try to push the potato into a turn (making it extremely difficult if not impossible). 2) Microwave the sweet potato for 2-3 minutes before attempting to cut it. it will make a difference. I've microwaved a regular potato for 1 minute and it seems to help soften the skin and make slicing easier (I've only tried it once but couldn't tell if it makes that much of a difference). . 3) I don't peel potatoes, but I suspect peeling would help too. This cutter requires a little force, but if you cut both ends a little it makes an amazing difference. Start slow with repeated nudges, and once it's up and running it'll start shooting fries. Make sure you have a safe place for them to land and don't shoot from the other side of the counter. The suction works well when I wipe down the countertop and bottom of the cutter with a damp sponge. Hold on. I only make french fries (a few potatoes) once a week, so this cutter suits me. Seems to be holding up well. It also fits perfectly in the kitchen cabinet and doesn't take up much space. I only used a 1/4" blade, but I suspect a 3/8" size would cut even easier. I had some problems when I first tried this. before realizing that flattening both ends of the potato made a huge difference. Definitely better than cutting them by hand.
