A pair of torsion bars worked great! I have successfully coiled/uncoiled the garage door springs and made the necessary adjustments to balance the weight of the garage door. While it's just a pair of metal rods, it's the special tool needed to adjust the torsion spring. It's worth a small investment. Do not improvise with a different type of bar that may not fit properly or may fail under tension. There is a risk of injury because coil springs store a lot of energy. As with any home improvement job, there are things that can and cannot be done. If you don't have hands-on knowledge before you begin, learn the steps and procedures to safely complete your garage door repair, or hire someone to do the repair. Good luck and be careful.
