Review on DMT Diamond Machining Technology DIAFLAT by Hesham Peltier

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I'll keep it to myself, but I wouldn't buy it knowing what I know now.

Product is a price for what it ultimately offers. First let me say that I have many different types of whetstones. I have been involved with synthetic and natural water/oil based stones for many years. This product flattens your water stones; but also an 8x3 DMT plate for 1/3 the price. The main reason I bought this slab is that its flatness should be within 1/10,000 of an inch; which turns out to be a nonsensical feature of this record. The diamond grit is coarse enough to quickly cut through synthetic waterstone and aggressive enough to level my granite reference slab. However, the finish this slab leaves behind is too rough to even speak of 1/10,000 flatness. What I'm trying to say is, if you have the money to burn it and if you just waterstones smooth, buy it. . . Otherwise, spend $50 on a 6" x 18" granite reference plate and another $60 on an XXC DMT plate to level the reference plate at the right time. The flatness of 1/10,000 is meaningless for abrasives of this grit.

Pros
  • Diamond hard coated DMT surface contains approx. 120 micron diamond grit. Each Dia Flat Lap is accurate and certified to less than +/-0005 to ensure every slab is consistent.
Cons
  • Line is shorter than other cutters
