I do not know why the negative reviews. We have very hard water and they work exactly like a Brita filter, the soaking instructions are exactly the same as Brita, the water isn't metallic gray or tastes funny, yes they have a band around them to make a seal, it worked great on my britafilter there is no leakage. I only bought three to test them out but will use these for now, in my opinion they are just as good as the Brita filters and a cheaper alternative. Some people say they filter slow and that they filter if you don't follow the soaking instructions, some people say they filter fast, I think they run a little faster than the new Brita but who cares if they do their job make? do not you think? If they weren't there, there would be many more negative reviews. Pur users seem to give 1 star ratings so maybe there is an issue that I am not aware of. The bottom line is we have been using Brita for over 20 years and have always used their filters and will continue to use them from now on. The only thing I've found is that my old style filter change indicator doesn't match the top of these, but that's what calendars are for. This is not a paid review, but a real observation from a longtime Brita filter user.
