Hitachi Dado with spring clamp

Wanted to start Dado (is that a word?) and needed this for my Hitachi C10RJ table saw. The insert fits the saw as intended. There are a few issues to deal with (many of which have already been mentioned, I'm sure). The grooves are secured at the end with a spring clip, which usually has a release pawl (Fig. 2, 3, 4). Unfortunately, this is bad design. The first few times the spring clamp "hooks" on the lower edge of the table. I had to choose the form and send it back. I've played with it for a while but it won't happen again, it just doesn't quite fit. One star discount. The groove size is slightly smaller than the standard panel in width. This leaves about 1/8 of the gap between the outside edge and the table. This works but seems clumsy (can slide left to right). See pics 6 and 7. Luckily it doesn't slide hard enough to hit the blade. I deduct a star. The platform did not stay level at first. Finally found out it's not a set screw issue, but the plate is slightly deformed (probably because one end is open/not connected to what looks like a normal plate). Bend a little and adjust it how you want it. There are now two small metal plates on the underside of the device. Apparently taped in place as one came loose when I started gluing (Fig 5, right). I glued it back on, let's see if it holds up. Otherwise it "seems" to do the job. I won't do much dado, if I do I can just make my own plate. Time will tell how long it lasts.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs
