I moved into an old historic building (circa 1853) with very thick brick/stone/lattice walls and plastered interior walls. The building has a "building-wide" WLAN installation with routers on the first and fourth floors. My apartment is on the second floor, just up the stairs from the first floor router and with pretty good line of sight for WiFi signals. In fact, the signal in front of my device is excellent. Unfortunately I work from home and my office is on the back of my machine - farthest from the router. As a result, I was getting very weak signals on both my desktop Mac and my work Windows laptop. I installed an extension cord/adapter in the front living room to boost the signal, but that didn't completely fix the problem. So after some research I tried one of these for my Mac (it connects directly to the computer), set it up (fairly easy) and was very happy with the results. My reception and signal strength are now "Very Good" - not great, but certainly good enough to use my Mac pain-free. It worked so well that I bought it for my work computer (Windows) as well. However, the installer comes on a CD and my Windows laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD player! So, after a bit of head scratching, I popped the CD into my Mac, copied the installer software onto a USB drive, and plugged the USB drive into my laptop, and voila! it worked. Overall very happy and the price was great and they even look nice.
