I was aware that this device can be connected to the phone via the app and at least SOME functions would not be available without this method. I bought this for my mom who just wanted to check the temperature of the meat while she was doing things like roast turkey. Little did I know that you can't even change Celsius to Fahrenheit without using the app, and there's nothing you can do other than toggle it on and off without using the app. and she can just use it as her main thermometer, which is what we really wanted. Except the app doesn't work at all on my Google Pixel 4a 5G phone. It started up in a weird screen with just a disabled slider, and that's it. So let's go back and buy me a really "dumb" one with MANUAL CONTROLS, at least for the basic functions. Please maker, phone apps are nice but please turn on BASIC BUTTONS for basic functions!
