The power steering worked for 5-10 minutes and then stopped working. When stopping, the steering wheel shook slightly. This solved the problem and now I have power steering again. I didn't have to reprogram my car. Here are some tips I'd like to know before I jump into them. assembled sensor. Unless you have very large snap ring pliers, don't start this project. I didn't know how wide it was before I started and figured the snap ring pliers I had would do. I ended up having to improvise and redo needle nose pliers on a grinder, which I don't recommend. Adjust the seat all the way back and down for more room to work. Do this before disconnecting the battery. Disconnect the battery before beginning this project. After disconnecting the battery, wait at least two beers (about an hour) before fiddling with the steering column, just to be on the safe side with the airbag. Make sure the wheels and handlebars are straight. The steering column consists of two parts. If you disconnect all the cables from the steering wheel assembly and loosen the two large screws, one on each side of the steering wheel, you can remove the steering wheel half first. This gives you more room to loosen other screws and wires. Do not let the steering wheel turn or you will have to re-center. If you need to rediscover the center, you can do this by turning it all the way one way, counting how many turns it takes to go all the way the other way, and turning it halfway. There are no bolts connecting the power steering motor itself to the car, it is fully connected to the bottom half of the column and will come out with it. If you try to pull out the old sensor, you will see a small metal ring between the sensor and the shaft. Pry the ring out with a small flathead screwdriver. This allows you to carefully pry out the old sensor. The new sensor includes an alignment tool. Use it. It probably works the way you think it will. When installing a new sensor, do not pull on the metal pin at the top until the sensor is in its forever home. Make sure the line on the sensor lines up with the key on the shaft. Once the transducer is attached and aligned, pull the pin. Assemble it from two halves, it will be much easier. I'm not saying this works 100% and you don't need to reprogram your car at the dealer, but it worked for me. I'm writing this the day after I did it and it works fine. If this changes I will update this review.
