It's probably worth the effort.

This is a review I would have liked to have read before buying - not because I regret the purchase, but because the installation process requires more taxes than I expected. I put the wood beams in the center of the recessed plank ceiling and no overhead lighting so I needed to get some extra light. This beautiful is thick glass with interesting swirls and I love the contrast with the darker hardware. As others have noted, the thumb on/off switch is next to the connector at the very end of the cord for some reason. Since the light isn't regulated, I got myself a smart lightbulb, because who has time for all that. Oh, and there's an awfully long cord and chain. The chain runs almost the entire length of the cable and appears to be 20 feet long. I didn't measure it but I had to remove all the plastic wrapping and the copper ground wire and then thread the cord wire a few times after securing the connection to the top of the lamp. I felt like a movie ghost ringing off. I plan on hiding everything else, but it's definitely going to be a slightly awkward pile of dark chain behind the side table. Yes, the first link of the chain is just as difficult to attach to the top of the lantern as the reviews say. . I had to use two different pliers at the same time and all the strength of my hands. I assume this is to allow for shipping - I assume the glass lampshade could break if shipped connected. Despite warning, I found the process of attaching it ridiculously annoying. Additionally, unless you have special tools or experience, you will damage the first link (and possibly other parts) and scrape off some of the plating to allow the shiny silver to show through. I don't care at all, and if I ever decide what I'm going to do I can always paint over it, but it's worth mentioning. I also had to pre-drill holes in the ceiling joists to drive in screws for the hooks. The 1/8" chisel on the drill bit worked well. I broke one of the hooks trying to screw it in, but it's probably my fault - I didn't make sure to pre-drill one of the holes deep enough, and I played around with the pliers a bit to force it.(Not recommended.) Between trying to screw in the hook and trying to open and close the first metal link to attach it to the lamp I have got blisters on my arms today.I kept the lampshade in the box most of the time.this operation and handled it very carefully trying not to hurt it with a strong chain. Thanks to this treatment the lampshade survived and stayed safe and healthy Everything looks very good above my dining table Due to the fact that I broke one of the hooks I have contacted the company for a replacement and I am considering this project is still not considered complete. But I'm very proud that I managed to get it up and running at all. It took me several hours a day and many consultations with a neighbor who is knowledgeable about tools. I'm not a handyman, but I think anyone can do it with the right tools and the right expectations. Anyone who says they did it in less than an hour is either a much more competent person than I am or a liar.
