I was hoping to use this runner for my Thanksgiving table and bought two. You are really wonderful. However, the smell was so terrible that even after airing it out for two days, the smell hadn't gone away. I thought I'd try washing it in a perm to get rid of the smell, but even that didn't help. It was so bad that even after I put it in the washing machine with detergent and fabric softener, the smell wouldn't come out and my whole laundry room stank. I don't know what's in it or what it's made of, but my god it stinks. There was no way we could have this on our table at mealtimes, whether inside or outside. I would say the smell was like a strong smell of paint or gasoline. If I lit a net of candles on it, the runners would surely catch fire.
