Started the engine on the first attempt

I have a 60hp Mercury. Bigfoot standing a few years and the high pressure fuel pump jammed. Given the cost of a pump from my local dealer I was looking for a less expensive pump. Bought one for $20 from another retail location and it worked within 10 seconds after many turns of the ignition. However, this started the engine with the first turn of the key. Let the engine idle for a long time. Then I stopped and started the engine at least 20 times and it started without hesitation. Thanks very much!
