God but it was fun to install. It probably took twice as long as I thought. It turns out that the 2012 Ram has two wires with a brown and white stripe in the harness. Who would have thought that. After tripping over another cable and plugging it in, it still didn't work. All door locks worked except for the tailgate. I searched the fuse box under the hood and found a definite fuse (M3) for the tailgate lock. Once I installed the fuse in the bracket, everything worked the other way around. Swapped the tailgate cable and it works. The manual doesn't mention two brown/white wires or a fuse. I didn't run the cables up and through the firewall. You can access the driver's console by pulling the plastic cover in the side recess next to the driver's seat and peeling the tape through the access hole at the bottom of the recess. Much easier. I decided to do this after realizing that the wire would not be long enough to go through the firewall and still leave the tailgate connector in an accessible spot near the spare tire in case I need to remove the tailgate in the future. I hope this saves others time.
