The part that went to the door fitted perfectly. So,

I bought this to replace the old ugly brass and was hoping the holes would line up so I wouldn't have to drill new ones. The part that went to the door fitted perfectly. So cheers! The chain section was much shorter than the old one's chain. I should have measured before installing this part. It fits down after moving this part of the device, but barely. So if you have a guard that you are replacing, be aware of that. Otherwise it goes perfectly with the gear we replaced a few years ago and I'm very happy about it! The quality is very good.
