God I was furious the day I broke the cable on the extended cab doors on one of my trucks. I thought the cable was broken. A month later, the same thing happened with the extended cab door on the driver's side. In most cases it turns out that this is not the case, the tabs (plastic) molded on the ends of the cable body break. In short, find various YouTube videos on how to replace them. They work as advertised and I didn't have any major problems installing them. I highly recommend investing in a proper tool for opening metal based rivets (protected with duck tape) as removing panels without the proper tool isn't something I want to do, but it can be done. Either way it's doable for a mechanically savvy person if you have the right tools, otherwise your local mechanic can fix it for you. It's a lot cheaper than buying new cables from Ford.
