Review on πŸš€ Cisco-Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster: Unleash Ultimate Internet Speeds by Herthoel Yanda

Revainrating 5 out of 5

solid product. Great signal strength. Easy setup.

I chose this router for a number of reasons: 1) Stability 2) Ease of management/flexibility 3) Price Considering the above, I therefore decided to replace the underpowered previous DLink router . My experience with non-L and non-GS WRT54G routers led me to choose Linksys for real stability. I've used a number of other wireless routers and have seen Linksys models outperform other brands in the number of reboots required over a period of time. After the stability, I wanted something easy to use. And of course Linksys had very clunky interfaces in previous models/revisions, but this model was very easy to set up without a CD. The initial setup took less than 20 minutes and I'm no network expert but I understand the pros and cons from previous experiences. I was able to rename the SSID, set up new credentials, set up WPA2, set up PPOE and set up a new address range (changed from the default 192.168.1.x range). When the WRT54GS was plugged in instead of dlink, it took a simple power on to queue up and get the job done with no issues. I'm currently sticking with the stock firmware (dated 11/07) but I like the idea of being able to use other open source firmware on this model if needed (similar to the L series). And finally - the price. This model was actually smaller than the L model at the time of purchase and has the same configurability/flexibility in terms of firmware. So far the router has been a marked improvement over the operational DLink. The speed is also noticeably higher. Both routers were only set to G, so I can only conclude that Linksys handles WPA more efficiently. All in all, this is a solid wireless router. You might spend less money on a wireless router, but for the level of service it offers, the extra bucks are definitely worth the performance boost. Many consider WiFi routers to be commodities - everyone has them and should be the same, right? Not correct. There are a few subtle nuances that make or break a good router. This Linksys model fits the bill and still serves great as the primary wireless and wired router on my network. Thank you Linksys (Cisco) for releasing a quality product.
