Scans to their paid cloud services. So you can not only use it as a scanner. I actually had one for 10 years and before they asked to use their cloud, Neat was at the forefront of the scanners. When they announced that they would switch to a paid cloud, they ignored the protests of their customers. (Why can't I just use it as a personal scanner? They stopped providing the software needed to do that.). So I left the Neat family forever. My new scanner is sharper and more powerful and certainly beats the Neat by a few light years.
