I had to cut 1-1/8" holes in a 14 gauge stainless steel box (about 1.9mm thick). First I tried a Bosch bimetal bit and it has almost no scratches. Metal before it was fired. The Greenlee kit looked like a good solution. It's expensive, but these are handy diameters for electrical wiring (1/2", 3/4" and 1"). The beats look very high quality. There is a plastic sleeve that protects the bits and includes a recommended speed chart. The table recommends 375 rpm for stainless steel. I had to cut at 620 because that's the lowest setting on my drill press. I worked slowly and used a lot of coolant. It took a while but the hole was clean and the drill bit still looks new. The spring on the nozzle worked well to push the metal donut out after the cut. The maximum depth of cut is 8 gauge (4mm). The kit contains 3 cutters, an additional center drill and an Allen key.
