Review on πŸ”ˆ Dark Walnut Micca OoO Bookshelf Speakers - Pair with 3-Inch Woofers and Silk Tweeter by Monica Watson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Compact power supply well suited for bookshelf speakers

I bought these for desktop speakers and used a Lepai ta2020 amplifier (10Wrms/ch). I played bass professionally and did a lot of mixing and recording. There isn't much information about them so I want to be thorough. You sound decent. They have an amazing amount of bass if you aim them correctly. Without compensation, they are meaningless, so to speak. The sound is poorly balanced. Too many high frequencies. I have cheaper speakers that produce clearer and more spacious high frequencies (Sony Bravia surround speakers). Without high cut and low boost, the bass guitar is barely audible in songs (compared to treble instruments). Aligned, it shakes the table. I ran some tests and found that they can play up to around 40Hz. 50Hz is still decently loud, but below that level the volume starts to drop. I played them through on my bass guitar and they sound surprisingly good. Extremely smooth, soft response. Mickey should build bass boxes. The sound is better than most of my taxis. They wrestle on the low B string (rattling) (31 Hz). It could be an amp though, so I need to test more. In general, I will leave them. They're pretty compact and I don't think anything can really beat them in this price/size range. They have a good sound and are very functional. Good general purpose speakers, attach them anywhere. It just doesn't appeal to me (I really wish they did). I would only buy them as a standalone system. There are high-end tweeters. So when you buy a subwoofer, you don't want to pair it with it. Update 10/30/19 Just wanted to give an update in a few days. I bought 50w x 2 amp and installed it in my van. They work amazingly well. After adjusting the EQ, I had to turn down the bass. It shook the walls. The only downside is full range audio, they don't play loud. I used a decibel meter and it showed 65-70 dB at a listening distance of about 2 feet. Pretty cool, it sounds like a personal appearance without disturbing anyone. I also ran another tone tester and turned the bass down to 30-35Hz. Quieter than 40Hz although I muted the bass boosted amp and haven't had any major issues other than some amp distortion. I'm increasing my rating to 5 stars. It suits my needs perfectly. Get a strong booster for these guys. 50 watts per channel, they will use it

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
