I use them all the time in both the flip and standard heads. Nobody makes them like General or Ridged Tool. They are not designed to connect to each other. Bending the snake can sometimes help free the inside of the tube by rubbing the side as you drive the snake in. Make no mistake, drain cleaning is an art in itself. It's mostly hard work.
