This unit is a universal replacement and comes with a variety of tie rod ends. On my 1995 Windstar, the correct shaft end was a long, J-shaped one. To get mine out I had to cut off the stem end and carefully expand the strut holding the actuator (it's a press fit). After the actuator was removed I removed the old stem and placed the new long J end of the stem in its place and mounted the actuator in the bracket with the studs furthest from the end of the piston. Then insert the end of the stem into the end of the actuator and connect the block. It worked like a charm and at a very low cost.
