Review on πŸ”₯ YESWELDER LYG-17800F: Large Viewing Screen Auto Darkening Welding Helmet for TIG MIG Arc Weld Grinding - True Color Solar Power, 4 Arc Sensor by Aries Boyce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Surprisingly good (SMAW experience)

I would describe myself as a "serious hobby welder". I have 4 welding helmets and this is my favorite. It's comfortable and works perfectly. It's so easy to see through the untinted glass that sometimes I forget it's down and keep working. It never gets dark when it shouldn't (like when I'm looking at the sun). The "True Color" aspect takes a little getting used to, but it's quite nice and I'm spoiled now. I'm so used to everything being green and seeing only arches and puddles that it doesn't seem dark enough at first, but the opportunity to see the rest of the work is tremendous. No more drawing lines! I probably make it lighter than I should (maybe 9-10 for SMAW) but I can clearly see where I'm going which saves me a lot of prep time and even a clip in some cases because I can just keep the article, where I want him. My only (minor) gripe is that the ability to see past puddles only seems to work in daylight. Once the sun goes down, it looks like you're wearing a regular hood, just not green. The arch is too light compared to the rest of the work (maybe I can see better if I darken it - I'll have to try). I probably burned 200-300 bars with this lens hood and I couldn't be happier. Everything for stick welding - everything from 1/16" to 5/32". 6010, 6011, 7014 and 7018. Not MIG or TIG though and I haven't used it for grinding, oxyfuel cutting or welding so I can't comment on how well it works for those applications. Highly recommended for everyone from "beginner" to "serious hobby welder" or maybe "professional replacement hood". I can't really recommend it to pros because I'm not a pro and just don't know how well it will hold up to extreme use. While it certainly doesn't feel cheap, it's still plastic and maybe not strong enough. I've dropped it a few times and it got a little wet, but I'm not going to be squeezing under a 24-inch pipe in a ditch full of water and welding overhead all day either.

Pros
  • Tools and housewares
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
