Setup required! Best in Computer Components

I'm doing 3 posts. First thing on my mind upon opening, second a few weeks after use and third a few months after abuse. bd) a disk that is not cheap. but I was looking for something under $50 for light to moderate use; so I dared. Well I didn't actually, b/ci bought a 2 year warranty for $2 which is good to protect your $45 investment! So I don't care if it breaks. In any case, instruction is in 3 languages, one of which is English; Another reviewer said this is not the case. but that is not necessary because. All it does is tell you that if you have Windows Me or higher it's plug and play, Windows 98 they'll send you a driver disk. The disc also includes disc burning software and theater software. The disc burning software is very simple, just open the folder, open the sn text file, copy the number, open the setup exe, then paste the number and run it. People have complained about the Blu-ray software, but I got it working. Just open the serial text file, now the file is corrupted so it contains a lot of gibberish but can still be decrypted. It is on the first line where the Latin (English) alphabet begins. Copy Alpha/Numbers, open the first file setting, paste and run. Then start installing the plugin and then install the update. Restart your computer when prompted. Now open the app and it should work fine. The next necessary setting is changing regions. Many discs will only play in certain regions. I inserted a disc from my region, right-clicked the disc on my computer, went to properties, went to hardware, went to properties again, then DVD region. You can only change this 4 times so use wisely! The next setting is to change the file associations. Open the player software you just installed. Click Settings (gear icon) and File Associations. I just checked everything, but you can only select the files you want. You can also switch regions here, they give you 5x but still use them wisely. b/c it is written to disk and cannot be changed later by connecting another device or reinstalling windows. The last change you need is to change autoplay. Personally, I like to go to the Control Panel, then type autoplay in the search bar, click autoplay, and change the actions you want. however, it didn't work. I'm running Windows 8.1 on a year old laptop. So if you right-click on a drive on my computer and select "Open Autoplay", you can change Windows Media Player's autoplay to the one you just installed. I believe in previous versions it was in properties and then autoplay, but just google if you need help. good that's it! If you're tech savvy, it's easy to understand once you have the manual (above). For those who aren't tech savvy, just follow my instructions and use google if you get stuck. If you don't want to worry, I would advise you to buy a more expensive drive that really works on a plug and play basis. Anyway, it usually works. It took about 1 hour to figure everything out, but now that you have the shortcut you should be able to work faster. DVD played well. Sidebar, 1080p is awesome, first time playing a DVD on my laptop. In any case, I haven't tried out the blue jet or burner yet. I'll get back to you later so you know what's going on. Post 2 - 4/26/14 plays DVD and audio with no problems. but Blu-Ray headaches are no joke! I spent 3 hours trying to get this thing to work and this is what I found. It's not enough to have Blu-ray hardware, you also need software. and Windows doesn't boot with it, so you have to buy the $100 software. I searched the internet for a legitimate way around this, such as open source. I tried VLC Media Player [.] which is an open source player that should play everything. but the aacs blu-ray encryption made that impossible. I tried searching google for workarounds and only found this [.] but neither the forum nor the youtube video made it work SUCCESSFULLY. All theory, no practice. So if you want to play Blu-Ray, you have to shell out $50-$100 in the end. Here are some good options for [.] to save you the research work. Sorry guys I tried to find a legal way to help everyone but nothing seems to work. and the included media player lags 3 versions behind and keeps crashing. That sent me on this 3 hour quest that got me to zero.
