Sixty Dollar Brick on Blu-ray

I was wondering why there were so many less than great reviews. Now I know. My version of this product did not come with instructions or a software CD. From the online submission I assumed that some people had success with just the power cable, some needed the addition of a "data" cable, and some people just didn't like the product. Count me among the latter. I received a fleeting message that my USB2 port did not have enough power to control the device. After that I didn't get anything. Well…

Very pretty but read the warning

IMPORTANT: This is another Blu-ray player that requires you to purchase your own media player software. It does NOT come with any media player software to play Blu-Ray DVDs. I already knew this but wanted to make sure buyers are aware before spending any money. This is a really solid, well-made DVD player. That's why it got 4 stars. But let's face it. Not many ordinary people use Blu-ray for data storage. You need a Blu-ray player to watch movies. Additional media player software will cost you…

Highly recommended for Blu-ray drives

My wife recently bought a new laptop without a ROM drive, it seems like a lot of laptops are coming out this way. With a lot of Blu-ray movies she loves to watch and the expense of finding software to copy those movies to a dongle, that decision was a lot easier. Read and write. Requires 2 connections to a laptop. One for power and one for reading data. It's configured to read and write USB 2, so you won't get lightning-fast speeds. I also think you could find a 1 amp 5 volt phone charger to…

Setup required! Best in Computer Components

I'm doing 3 posts. First thing on my mind upon opening, second a few weeks after use and third a few months after abuse. bd) a disk that is not cheap. but I was looking for something under $50 for light to moderate use; so I dared. Well I didn't actually, b/ci bought a 2 year warranty for $2 which is good to protect your $45 investment! So I don't care if it breaks. In any case, instruction is in 3 languages, one of which is English; Another reviewer said this is not the case. but that is not…

Requires additional software for Blu-Ray but works great with DVD

Product size and weight is exactly what I was looking for. It's about the size of a standard mouse pad and only requires 2 cables: one for power and one to connect to your computer. It runs fast enough on DVD without changing video or audio quality, but I've yet to get Blu-Ray to play. My computer didn't originally come with Blu-ray compatible software, so I had to look for free software to play it. I couldn't find a good free player, so I can't watch my Blu-rays until I buy one. Aside from not

Decent player, works great via USB 3

Works as expected. I bought it to play Blu-ray movies on my laptop. You need to find software that can play Blu-ray movies. It is not supplied and is not included with Windows. I already had Nero so all I had to do was install the Blu-ray player component, but most of them come at an additional cost if you don't already have something with that feature. The player works great and is easily powered from my USB 3 port with a single cable connection. I haven't tried the USB 2 port. The only…
