My wife recently bought a new laptop without a ROM drive, it seems like a lot of laptops are coming out this way. With a lot of Blu-ray movies she loves to watch and the expense of finding software to copy those movies to a dongle, that decision was a lot easier. Read and write. Requires 2 connections to a laptop. One for power and one for reading data. It's configured to read and write USB 2, so you won't get lightning-fast speeds. I also think you could find a 1 amp 5 volt phone charger to power the drive when needed. Performance wise it does its job very well and when paired with a high-end laptop there are no stutters or freezes when watching a Blu-ray disc. .It's small enough to carry around in your computer bag and for the price, it's a good addition if your laptop doesn't have a ROM drive.
