Britt has a 17 inch neck and we can fit a medium size over her head if she is full sized. it fits a little, but it definitely doesn't dangle on her head. I also have a Pitt named Fitz who has an 18" neck and we usually use a 22" collar on him, the medium size fits him too and I definitely wouldn't go any other size Our Retriever / Izzy Golden Mix ( d knows it's 3 and it's not even all our dogs - yeah we're crazy) has a 22 inch neck and thicker coat and the average size doesn't fit her so we'll order a big one for Miss Izzypotamus. Having used it on our deaf dog we absolutely love this collar and now all the dogs are color coded when they go outside to ring the bell. If you have a large garden or plot of land, just buy it. You will love it. I also recommend getting a bear bell and throwing it in there so you can hear where your dog is when he's acting up and ignoring you while you call him!
