Review on Mann-Filter Fuel Filter WK 853/3 X by Daniel Hicks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Magnificent appearance. Only time will tell what's inside

How do you rate a filter you can't see? At least the exterior is better than it was at the VW dealer when I last exchanged it. The more important thing to know is how to replace this filter, so here are a few tips: - The U-clamp on the filter housing is a special type of double square drive. Notch on the screw to loosen it. I was able to use a large torx bit that fit and it worked, but it wasn't very tight and I didn't tighten it. You can replace this with a regular hex head if you like. - Watch the YouTube video FIRST for good instructions and graphics. - This filter comes with O-rings and these will need to be changed as they age and leak. cannot start your car. - Find a plug to plug in the hoses before doing this job. - Place a towel under the area to catch the diesel as it is corrosive. - After installing the new filter, fill it with filtered fuel from the old filter through a paper strainer or towel. Use a funnel and insert it into the hole where the ring clamp is holding the tee. Don't put the funnel on the ground as it has a plate on which it rests and stops the flow. - After collecting everything back, hold. Clamp and connect a small hose to the filter outlet. Have someone turn the machine on (do not start!) and the pump will run for a few seconds and bleed the filter. Do this until most of the air comes out. I've found I always get a few blisters, but mostly a steady stream. The car ran well and started immediately. - I don't know how deep the filter should go as it looks like it could be placed higher for easy access to the drain, but I adjusted it to the same height it was taken off. suspect what -any undesirable effect of the siphon.
