This product is hard to beat when used correctly. I think people who judge this device harshly are abusing it. First, it's a portable, battery-powered welder. You can't expect it to weld all battery strips! It is designed for tapes up to 0.1 mm thick. If you use the right thickness, you can easily weld the strips. You also need to make sure the strips are laying flat to ensure good contact. And finally, a light touch is enough. If you make too good contact with the workpiece, the current can easily flow through the workpiece and not enough heat is generated to create effective welds. The 0.1 x 8mm strips are rated for up to 8 amps. If you need more current the solution is not to use thicker strips but to weld one strip to the battery and then weld another strip to the first. I made 3 layers thick using the stacking method and had no problems. When I first started playing with this device I had my doubts and almost sent it back. I was starting to think it wasn't powerful enough even when it was on full power. But with a little practice, I found settings 4 through 6 to be perfectly adequate. In fact, in several situations I had to turn off the power because I was making holes in the strips!
