Our well smells unpleasant. After switching to this filter and flushing out the rest of the old water in the lines, the smell is completely gone except for 1 tap and we think it will probably go away with more flushing of the hot water tank. We've found them to be good for 6 months, while similar filters only take 3 months. Each filter was individually shrink-wrapped and packed in a box, then several boxes were sealed in a thick bag. We believe this helps keep the charcoal "activated". The gaskets stayed attached to the filters and provided a good seal. IMO as good or better than any similar filter you've heard of.
