Only available WiFi lock for handles

Before buying this lock, I used Schlage WiFi connections. Expensive ($250) but very well designed, easy to use, easy to install and easy to add/remove users. But Schlage doesn't do a Wi-Fi grip lock. This Yale lock is extremely cumbersome to install and add users. You can add them "locally" (a bit cumbersome) or remotely via the app. However, user IDs have a different maximum length depending on which one you use. Which can add to the confusion. Most likely, the installation will fail at least once. Take your time. And you must have an outlet nearby to use the open/close function. A nice feature is that you can tell if the door is physically open (ajar) or closed. Most other locks, including Schlage-Bolt, simply tell you if it's locked or unlocked. To do this, you need to install a separate device (alarm-type magnetic switch). After installing it (less than a month ago) it's still working fine. But Yale should simplify its system. Too many moving parts. And unlike Schlage, the tenant or family is less intuitive to use. No visible numbers until you click the Yale icon.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
