Type of review

To my knowledge the only smart LEVER compatible with Apple HomeKit and additional options for other parts of the house. Very easy to install. With Connected by August it has a Door Sense feature to detect when a door is ajar and requires fewer apps as it works with other Augusts and Yale that have connected through August. UPDATE January 2021 .

No backup if batteries die or engine fails

I bought these locks thinking I could add key cylinders to them. It turns out that this is impossible - even a small disassembly of the lock will not allow replacing the mute cylinder with a real one. It broke the deal for me. I've had several keypad locks, and in every case, at least once the battery suddenly failed, or in one case the motor failed. Without a spare key I would have to hire someone to come out and pick the lock or do other destructive things to get into the room that would be…

Only available WiFi lock for handles

Before buying this lock, I used Schlage WiFi connections. Expensive ($250) but very well designed, easy to use, easy to install and easy to add/remove users. But Schlage doesn't do a Wi-Fi grip lock. This Yale lock is extremely cumbersome to install and add users. You can add them "locally" (a bit cumbersome) or remotely via the app. However, user IDs have a different maximum length depending on which one you use. Which can add to the confusion. Most likely, the installation will fail at least…

Update - READY FOR PUBLIC USE

Update - I don't know what happened but now it works very well. Sometimes, when we return home from a walk, the automatic unlocking is somewhat delayed, but not critical. Overall it works great and we're really enjoying it. I can't give an update on the poor customer service as I didn't have to call back. First review DO NOT BUY if you buy to auto unlock! It installed within a week and the automatic unlock worked about two times out of twenty. Support SUCKS! Ninety percent of the time you are…

Doesn't connect to Wi-Fi Bluetooth or anything. The app is terrible

This lock works great if you don't want to connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The hardware installation instructions via the app were fantastic. The lock itself tells you how to program the PIN codes to unlock and lock it and set it up in itself, but when you set it up with 'Yale Connect' hahahahah yeah that's another Story! Hub/Wi-Fi bridge included! It's not a coincidence. After many tries with numerous Yale apps designed for the locks they sell, nothing worked. I couldn't connect the included…

Didn't connect to HomeKit

Overall I'm very happy with this lock. We didn't have a bolt and wanted a smart lock. As others have said, this was the easiest option. Installation was easy and the August app did what I wanted. The part of the setup where we connected it to HomeKit didn't connect. I've tried multiple times, trying to add it directly from the Home app (not the August app). Nothing helped. I contacted support in August with a screenshot of the error I received. They asked me to send logs. They then told me they

Fantastic lock for any non-primary door

I've worked without a key for over 10 years and have never looked back. As someone who regularly tests and uses smart home devices, I really enjoyed it when Yale and August worked together - and this product is a perfect example of what I've been waiting for. I have installed several similar locks and have found it on par with others. The first thing to watch out for is to make sure the cylinder is installed properly before attaching the inside handle. Using the Bilt app and watching videos can

The lock is very secure but needs a software update.

I installed this lock on my home/garage door on Tuesday. I thought I entered the master code on the keyboard. I accidentally locked myself in my house yesterday. I had to call a locksmith. It took the locksmith about an hour to pick this lock. I think I hit the lock (transmission) button on my way out of the house and locked myself as a result. I wish the blocking would be better if the shift button and tick button were swapped. The locksmith said it was one of the most secure locks he had ever
