I checked the integrity of the four sensors on the back to find out what combinations triggered the alarm. If you hold the device upright to make it look like a tombstone, there are about four sensors at each corner. The alarm will only go off when the circuit is closed between the right and left sensors, NOT top and bottom on the same side. (in other words, completing the circuit from top left to bottom left will NOT trigger an alarm). The alarm is also triggered when the circuit is closed from the lower sensor on one side to the upper sensor on the other side. (i.e.: bottom left top right). So any configuration will work as long as it goes from left to right. Hope that helps.
