After assembling the pieces, I wiped the mat down with a damp paper towel before letting my child play on it. When I wiped the carpet I noticed the paint was peeling and I could see white spots on the carpet as I wiped it. I could see dozens of spots of color on the paper towel. We have two other Creative Baby interactive playmats: a sea mat and an animal mat. They are great and much better quality. I've cleaned them a few times and the paint hasn't chipped. The alphabet rug is definitely of lower quality. It also has an unpleasant chemical odor and smells like cigarette smoke. If I had bought an Alphabet rug first, I would never have bought sea animal rugs. But these rugs are great and we really like them.
