Curt 59236 for wiring

I installed this on a 2018 Ford EcoSport. The reason I chose this item is because when I watched U-Haul install the hitch and lights, U-Haul wanted to use this item for the trailer lights. I installed the module behind the rear light on the driver's side. The wire to the right tail light for the turn signal was not long enough and I had to add what I used with 14 gauge stranded wire and a waterproof butt connector. The supplied connectors were too big for wiring in the car, so after I put everything back together only the daytime running lights worked because the connectors didn't go through the wires. I took it apart and put smaller plugs in and everything worked great. I accidentally cut a wire trying to connect the connectors, but I believe it was a faulty connector and I ended up using a crimp nut. Overall it works great after a 4 hour install but I'm no pro, I had to remove a lot of trim on my car and had to travel to the hardware. Routing the wires was a pain, and the short wire going to the passenger's turn signal was annoying. The Ecosports are very flimsy and I had to add about 1-1.5 feet of wire to get to the right turn signal. This is not a vehicle specific item (which in most cases is a tail light connector adapter, very simple) and a vehicle specific trailer light item is about $200 more so I said the problem was worth it but the wire going to the right turn signal should be longer . Also the wire to the battery which I routed under all the trim on the driver side floor and cut off about 3ft, the Ecosport is very short so you may need to add that as well depending on where you install it. Overall yes I would recommend it to others because it's cheap compared to a car specific setup but you should be able to work out which wires are for what (I used a 3-24 volt dc meter, you can too use a multimeter). the plug tail light) and be able to make basic wire connections. Take your time it's not as bad as it sounds lol.
